Reports To

Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Building Principal, District ELL Coordinator.

Supervises

ELL Aide(s), Students.

BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE

The teacher of English Language Learners will deliver the district’s program for teaching English to students acquiring the English language in the context of the preschool academic curriculum at multiple school sites.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee performing the duties of this position is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, hear, bend, stoop, and reach. The employee may be occasionally required to manually lift, move, or carry up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to interact with staff and meet the demands of several different people. The employee occasionally works extended hours.

Create a classroom environment of respect and rapport;

3. Instruction based upon state standards, district curriculum, and student needs:
Communicate clearly and accurately;
Use a variety of instructional strategies and techniques;
Engage students in learning;
Provide timely feedback to students;
Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to student needs.

4. Professional responsibilities:
Follow contractual responsibilities;
Engage in reflective practice;
Maintain accurate records;
Communicate with families;
Engage in professional development activities;
Maintain appropriate licensure;
Collaborate with others to achieve a common goal.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Identify and screen students who speak or understand two or more languages.
  • Complete required state and district paperwork on EC ELL students.
  • Provide Early Childhood Principal and the ELL Coordinator with updates on EC ELL students.
  • Monitor language and academic progress of individual EC ELL students.
  • Serve as a resource to classroom teachers in modifying lessons for EC ELL students.
  • Serve as a communication link between school and home.
  • Participate on building teams identifying special needs of EC ELL students.
  • Provide training and supervision to aides serving EC ELL students.
  • Coordinate/provide building in-service on EC English Language Learners.
  • Provide direct instruction to students as needed.

Salary Range

Determined by placement on teacher salary schedule.

Evaluation Frequency

Job performance will be evaluated a minimum of 1 time per year.
