Construction (QA) Inspector – Airfield/Roadways Pavement

Work Location:

Anchorage, AK

Salary:
Based on experience and will be discussed with manager in interview

Requirement:
Must be a U.S. Citizen and must pass a federal background review and drug screen

Responsibilities / Duties
  • Must have knowledge of airfield runway construction improvements and pavement resurfacing; detailed inspections are required to ensure workmanship meets contract, project plans, and specifications.
  • Perform and support a three‑phase inspection system.
  • Provide daily QA reports documenting all on‑site activities in sufficient detail.
  • Review and analyze construction contractor progress.
  • Ensure safety requirements are met, including EM 385‑1‑1 and OSHA requirements.
  • Monitor submittals using a submittal status log.
  • Review design, comment logs, and back‑check accurate as‑built drawings.
  • Review and comment on the accuracy of construction contractor payment requests.
  • Review daily reports, verify project schedule, and document activities worked and behind‑schedule items.
  • Maintain an Inspector Site Inspection Report.
  • Assist with Requests for Information (RFI), modifications and change orders.
  • Participate in pre‑final and final inspections, help prepare detailed punch‑lists, and confirm all punch‑list items are corrected before final payment.
Experience / Education
  • High‑school diploma or GED with at least 7 years of construction inspection experience (quality assurance on airfield runway improvements, roadways, or pavement resurfacing).
  • Associate degree or two‑year technical training with at least 5 years of construction inspection experience of the same nature.
  • Bachelor of Science with at least 3 years of construction inspection experience of the same nature.
  • Paving Inspector Certification (Asphalt Institute) required within 30 days of start date.
  • Experience with Resident Management System (RMS 3.0) preferred.
  • Experience enforcing EM 385‑1‑1, OSHA rules, and all applicable safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in quality assurance inspections, submittal review, quality verification, contractor payment validation, and daily report preparation.
  • Experience with federal construction projects, particularly U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, preferred.
  • Professional presentation, excellent communication skills, and strong attention to detail.

QARs may work in remote locations with extreme environmental conditions such as severe heat or cold.
