Do you enjoy helping others and talking to new people? Would you be able to represent our beautiful capital city to visitors in town for the day? Are you a resident of Juneau with knowledge of all the ins and outs for restaurants, trails, rides, etc? If this sounds like you, please apply to be a Downtown Ambassadors! This seasonal position offers flexible schedules (10-40 hours/week on days of your choice) and will end in October.

Funded by CBJ Marine Passenger Fees, this seasonal position is highly interactive and designed to enhance the public's experience of Downtown Juneau. Select your own schedule between 8am-8pm. Ideal for those seeking to remain active, be outdoors, and interact with the locals, as well as visitors from around the world. Requires being exposed to the elements and being on your feet for the duration of each shift.
Time off can be arranged as needed to allow for summer travel and personal accommodations.
- Share local knowledge as requested (e.g., transportation, directions, pharmacy, excursions, shopping, dining).
- Independently provide hands‑on support to cruise ship passengers and visitors in the following designated areas:
- Visitor Center/Tram Area
- Visitor Kiosk by Library
- Transit Center/Marine Park Area
- Local Knowledge - Fluent in all things Juneau.

Skills:
Effective customer service orientation to assist individuals from different cities and countries in a friendly and positive manner. - Physical Stamina: Ability to remain on feet for extended periods, carry up to 10 lbs., and walk for the duration of each shift on concrete sidewalks and curbed terrain.
- Resourcefulness: Ability to independently find solutions and resources for visitors to Downtown Juneau.
- Accountability: Owning your responsibilities and outcomes. When working with minimal supervision, being accountable for your work is essential.
- Language Proficiency: Proficiency in understanding, speaking, and writing in English required. Additional language fluency is a plus.
- Problem‑Solving and Judgment: Aptitude for recognizing and solving problems, exercising good judgment, and making sound decisions.
- Observation and Time Management: Exceptional time management and observation skills.
- Deep local knowledge of downtown Juneau and nearby businesses, services, activities, and sites.
- Prior experience working with little to no supervision.
- Prior experience in customer service.
- Prior experience dealing with ambiguity and changing scenarios.
- To highlight visibility, Downtown Ambassadors will wear issued gear during each shift.
