Dentist – Pediatric

South East Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) is a non‑profit health consortium serving the residents of Southeast Alaska.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care to patients aged 0‑18 years, focusing on beneficiaries of the SEARHC Dental Program and children eligible for Denali Kid Care (Alaska Medicaid for Children).
  • Develop and promote dental health with evidence‑based dentistry practices.
  • Act as an advisor to general providers in all matters related to pediatric oral health.
  • Acknowledge communications and submit required reports in a timely manner.
  • Provide direct patient care in villages as directed by the Dental Unit Chief of Pediatric Services.
  • Maintain constant pace and frequent contact with often apprehensive or uncooperative patients, requiring strong communication, patience, organization, and efficiency.
  • Provide flexibility in scheduling to accommodate occasional work during lunch hour, after hours, emergencies, and field trips to remote villages.
  • Participate in village field trips and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • DDS or DMD degree from an accredited program.
  • Pediatric Dental Residency from an accredited program.
  • Active dental practice license in the state of Alaska or another US state (Alaska license preferred).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Knowledge of evidence‑based dentistry practices and HIPAA regulations.
  • Diagnostic and treatment skills in pediatric dentistry.
  • Clinical skills and ability to maintain safety.
  • Ability to follow infection control guidelines, diagnose and treat dental problems, follow established protocols, and exercise caution.
Travel & Work Environment

Occasional travel to remote villages around Southeast Alaska for field trips, traveling by jet, ferry, and small aircraft.

The work environment can be emotionally and physically challenging. Physically, the position requires sitting over patients for hours and dexterity with hands.
