SHI - Education Program Manager - Baby Raven Reads

The primary objective of this position is to provide oversight and management, including coordination and implementation of Baby Raven Reads programming, administered through the Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI) Education Department. The role reports directly to the Assistant Education Director and requires independent judgment to plan, prioritize, and organize diversified workloads while recommending changes to program practices or procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Outreach and engagement with stakeholders, project partners, and participants, communicating diplomatically with a diverse regional audience.
  • Overall project management of the Baby Raven Reads Program.
  • Supervise project staff, including a Project Coordinator, Curriculum Specialist, and Project Assistant.
  • Manage the program budget to meet established goals.
  • Ensure program objectives and outcomes are met, completing all required reporting.
  • Complete required training and certifications for the supervisor and supervises.
  • Act as liaison with other departments and external agencies to support the program.
  • Work independently and as part of a team on special projects, including planning and coordinating presentations and information dissemination.
  • Schedule and organize complex activities such as meetings, travel, conferences, and parent/student reading nights related to the program.
  • Develop and maintain program documents, manuals, forms, and resource materials.
  • Coordinate and implement program activities such as early literacy kits and the 4 Readings + Play kits.
  • Assist in executing contracts for partnerships, early childhood staff training, and other contracted services.
  • Support the Early Education Committee in co‑designing program toolkits and related materials.
  • Submissi mion of grant reporting documents and other required reports to Education Director, SHI Board of Trustees, and Management.
  • Maintain financial oversight to ensure compliance with grant requirements and timely, within‑budget expenditure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
  • High level of verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and activities with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills for project and program coordination.
  • Technical capability in using charts, tables, graphs, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Knowledge of Southeast Alaska Native culture and languages.
Supervisory Responsibility

This position will have several direct reports.

Work Environment

The role is performed at SHI offices and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

Regular verbal communication, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, climbing, and occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

About This Role

This is a full‑time benefited position. SHI employees work during regular business hours (8:00 AM–4:30 PM, Monday‑Friday) with the possibility of up to or over 45 hours per week or additional time as needed.

Travel

Annual travel to each served community to meet with local liaisons, families, children enrolled in Raven Reads programming, and staff at local tribal governments.

Required Education And Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or another field.
  • Four years of experience in project management and program coordination.
