Overview

Goldbelt Heritage Foundation (GHF) is a nonprofit organization committed to preserving and revitalizing the culture, language, and ways of knowing of the Tlingit people of Southeast Alaska. Through educational programming, language revitalization, arts, and community collaboration, GHF fosters Indigenous knowledge and strengthens cultural identity for current and future generations.

Position Summary:

The Youth & Education Program Coordinator supports the Program Manager in overseeing the day‑to‑day operations of GHF’s Youth & Education Department. This position is central to coordinating youth programs, cultural education, mentorship, and community partnerships, while also assisting with contracts, agreements, and financial tracking. The coordinator ensures programming is effective, culturally responsive, and compliant with grant and funding requirements.

This position is 100% grant‑funded, contingent upon continued funding across multiple sources.

Responsibilities
  • Program Coordination & Support
    • Assist the Program Manager and Project Coordinators in planning, implementing, and evaluating Youth & Education initiatives.
    • Assist in coordinating after‑school programs, cultural camps, and educational workshops for youth.
    • Manage program schedules, logistics, and communications internally across GHF departments and Youth & Education Project Coordinators.
    • Reviews curricula and prepares units for publishing.
    • Ensure activities align with grant objectives, deliverables, and reporting requirements.
  • Youth Engagement & Mentorship
    • Recruit, mentor, and support Alaska Native youth participants.
    • Provide culturally grounded guidance that promotes academic success, leadership, and wellness.
    • Build strong relationships with students, families, and community partners.
  • Contracts, Agreements & Partnerships
    • Draft, review, and assist with contracts, MOAs, and MOUs with program partners and collaborators.
    • Support negotiation and tracking of agreements to ensure compliance with organizational and funding requirements.
    • Strengthen partnerships with schools, tribal organizations, and community service providers.
  • Administrative, Financial & Grant Compliance
    • Assist with monitoring grant budgets and expenses, ensuring proper documentation and spending alignment with grant guidelines.
    • Support the preparation of reports for funders, including participant data, program outcomes, and success stories.
    • Responsible for collaborating with the GHF Communications team to promote and outreach department initiatives and publications.
    • Help maintain financial and program compliance through accurate record‑keeping and reporting, such as project management, note‑taking, and calendar organization.
  • Community & Cultural Integration
    • Work with Elders, cultural experts, and local educators to incorporate traditional knowledge into youth and education programming.
    • Assist in coordinating community events, cultural celebrations, and education initiatives across GHF departments.
Qualifications
  • Necessary Skills and Knowledge
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Tlingit cultures and ability to integrate cultural values into programming.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google Workspace and program data systems.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences, business administration, Alaska Native Studies, or a related field (equivalent experience considered).
  • At least 2 years of experience in youth program coordination, education, or community engagement.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Position will be exposed to multiple allergens including cedar and wool (sheep and mountain goat).
  • Must be willing to travel to local and regional events via plane, car, ferry, etc. as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in drafting and managing contracts, MOAs, and MOUs.
  • Experience in budget tracking, grant reporting, or financial administration.
  • Familiarity with Southeast Alaska Native communities, schools, and service providers.
  • Any level of knowledge of the Tlingit language.
  • Background in youth mentorship, education, or cultural program development.

The salary for this position is $31.25‑$41.67 per hour + DOE.
