Job Summary

ELL Identification Support staff helps administer and oversee English language proficiency assessments, monitors test-takers, maintains confidential records, prepares test materials, provides basic instructions to students, and performs clerical duties related to testing. The ELL Identification Support staff may also provide tutoring support to small groups of students with the guidance of an ELL Resource Teacher as needed.

Job Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment in a GED program.
  • Must meet paraprofessional requirements for the state of Alaska through one of the following methods: 48 college semester credits from a regionally accredited institution, OR a passing score of 459 or greater on the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment exam, OR passing the Work Keys by ACT assessment, OR passing the ASD provided Master Teacher paraprofessional training.
  • Excellent organizational and record‑keeping skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and inspire confidence and cooperation of staff, parents, students, administrators, and the public.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills and ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with staff, parents, students, administrators, and the public.
  • Must have a current Alaska driver’s license, own transportation, and be prepared to use it on company business.
Preferred Qualifications
  • College coursework in education.
  • Experience and training in working with children in an instructional environment, preferably within a bilingual setting.
  • Fluency in English and at least one other language.
  • Training and experience in English as a Second Language (ESL) programs.
  • Knowledge of ELL program , supports and services, testing requirements and parental rights.
  • Knowledge of WIDA assessments.
  • Knowledge of ASD computer systems such as Q and Power School.
  • Ability to operate common office equipment and proficiency with both Mac and Windows computers, with experience in a variety of programs and applications including word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to perform clerical work with independent judgment, speed, and accuracy.
Essential Job Functions
  • Administers English language proficiency assessments, both paper with pencil and computerized, according to strict guidelines.
  • Verifies test tickets and rosters to ensure the correct individuals are taking the assessments.
  • Monitors test-takers to ensure compliance with testing policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and maintains confidential test records, score rosters, and other associated documentation.
  • Enters student data into computer systems and generates reports.
  • Organizes and prepares test materials.
  • Coordinates testing appointments and scheduling.
  • Enforces test security policies before, during, and after testing.
  • Maintains the security and confidentiality of all testing processes and student information.
  • Maintains program records for students referred to the English Language Learners Program.
  • Provides tutorial sessions to small groups of students with the guidance of an ELL resource teacher as needed.
  • Attends scheduled in‑service training programs.
  • Acts as a liaison or interpreter/translator among school administrators, teachers, students, and parents as assigned by the ELL department.
Physical / Mental Demands

The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. The employee must also handle conflict, make effective decisions under pressure, and manage stress when working with diverse cultures and personalities.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals. The noise level is usually moderate, and the employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and video displays.
