Overview
The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Bridge Design Section, is looking for an Engineer/Architect 1 to help keep Alaska moving. The Bridge Section provides design services for new bridge and bridge rehabilitation construction projects, as well as a broad range of services for the state's 1,000 public highway bridges.
About the RoleIn this position you will perform structural engineering analysis and calculations for the development of bridge load ratings, bridge management tasks, and overload permit assessment. You will also complete bridge safety inspections, including routine, non-redundant steel tension member (NSTM), low water, and in-depth inspections. Some design and preparation of bridge construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and report tasks may be involved as well.

The position is located in the Alaska DOT&PF Headquarters building in Juneau. Flexible work schedules are offered, and travel opportunities throughout the state are available.
Qualifications- Structural engineering – knowledge of concepts, principles, theories, and methods related to the design and analysis of complex structures.
- Analytical thinking/problem solving – use a logical, systematic approach to address problems or opportunities.
- Oral and written communication – effectively express information, make clear presentations, and respond to verbal and nonverbal cues.
- Valid Alaska Driver’s License.
- Physical ability to descend/ascend bridge embankments and riverbanks.
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect. Positions in this class require professional registration in Alaska or a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers, and Land Surveyors, with a requirement to become registered in Alaska within one year of hire.

- Proof of your Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer license.
