ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST SUPERVISOR - State of Arizona

Job Summary

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) seeks a team leader to fill the Property Officer position. This role serves as the Property Officer and Risk Management Liaison for the complex, maintaining inventory records and managing accounting responsibilities.

Job Duties
  • Continuously update complex inventory records.
  • Prepare documents to add, change, or delete state property inventory items.
  • Provide training to each unit’s state property liaisons.
  • Gather equipment and prepare documentation for all equipment to be surplused, delivering to State Surplus and handling on‑site destruction.
  • Provide documentation to Risk Management for reimbursement of lost state and personal property involving staff, and for inmate personal property.
  • Enter and verify financial and other data to provide records, reports, and correspondence systematically.
  • Perform routine accounting tasks involving basic numeric calculations.
  • Resolve technical problems, investigate, and resolve account discrepancies.
  • Examine and verify fiscal transactions such as billing invoices, accounts payable/receivable, create requisitions, and other financial documents.
  • Operate the online Inmate Trust Account (ITA) for prison units.
  • Process ITA transactions daily (deposits, disbursements, collection of mandatory deductions, and error corrections).
  • Maintain multiple bank accounts (ITA and Work Incentive Program Pay).
  • Assist in receipt and deposit of inmate monies.
  • Ensure disbursements do not exceed funds available.
  • Review payroll sheets for accuracy, input into the system, and complete processing.
  • summaries and reports accurately and timely.
  • Review inmate accounts and recommend approval/denial of indigent status to the Business Administrator.
  • Review inmate requests for discharge money, issue checks to inmates, and post information in ITA system.
  • Drive on State business.
  • Perform other duties appropriate to the assignment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
  • Principles, practices, concepts, methods, and techniques of government accounting.
  • Operation of online inmate banking system, automated accounting systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite.
  • Federal and State laws, statutes, and regulations.
  • ADCRR policies and procedures.
  • Maintenance of financial accounts and records.
  • Preparation of balance sheets, financial statements, summaries, budgets, audits, reconciliations, and other reports.
Skills

  • Decision‑making and problem‑solving of complex financial control and accounting problems.
  • Interpreting and analyzing financial data, accounting, and logistical systems.

Selective Preferences

Employment is contingent upon passing a background investigation and drug test, and completing required TB and E‑Verify. Drivers must hold a valid license and complete required training. New hires must complete E‑Verify.

Retirement
