Overview

The Division of Juvenile Justice is recruiting to fill a Transitional Juvenile Probation Officer 1/2 position located at the Johnson Youth Center in Juneau, AK. This position will be filled at either the 1 or 2 level depending on the applicant’s qualifications and job experience. This vacancy is open to Alaska Residents only.

As a juvenile probation officer (JPO) you will work to positively influence, motivate, and steer young offenders toward community restoration and developing competencies to lead a productive, crime-free life. JPOs set high expectations for themselves and for the youth they serve. Your supervision and accountability-based services are designed to promote long-term, positive benefits to families, youth and communities.

Working Environment You Can Expect

This position is located in Juneau, AK at the Johnson Youth Center, 3252 Hospital Drive. Ample parking and an individual private office are provided. Most work is local to Juneau, but travel to other communities is required to supervise probationers, including Gustavus, Haines, Hoonah, Skagway, and Yakutat. The position is full-time (37.5 hours/week), Monday through Friday, with on-call responsibilities and potential after-hours work.

Travel to outlying communities is required for supervision of probationers.

Special Note: This position requires frequent escort travel within the State for detaining youth and 20 hours of annual one-on-one control tactics training.
