Experience:
A high school diploma or equivalent.
A minimum of two years of experience working with children/adolescents with developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, mental health issues, and/or intensive behavioral needs.
Must successfully complete Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Verbal Intervention training within 30 days of hire.
Must obtain and maintain current CPR/first aid certification.
Must possess a current Alaska driver’s license.
Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a mental health field, experience working with students with behavior issues, delivering behavioral support services, understanding mental health issues, using therapeutic interventions, data collection experience, and the ability to work with emotionally disturbed students.
Utilize proactive and positive behavioral support strategies to prevent and reduce student problem behavior.
Act as a supportive staff member using de-escalation strategies, positive behavioral supports, and interventions.
Collaborate with school staff to improve services for students and respond proactively to crises.
Attend training in behavioral supports and therapeutic interventions.
Implement special education programming as per IEPs under supervision.
Maintain progress data and implement interventions specified in BIPs.
Provide instructional support and establish supportive, therapeutic learning environments.
Work collaboratively with educators, related services personnel, and other staff.
Maintain confidentiality per IDEA and FERPA regulations.
Frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing.
Visual and manual dexterity requirements.
Ability to lift items less than 40 lbs.
Ability to handle conflict, manage stress, and make decisions under pressure.
Work environment includes professional settings with diverse individuals and potential exposure to outdoor weather and moderate noise levels.

Employment contingent upon criminal background check and, for certificated positions, additional background checks through DEED.
Position may require work at ASD facilities on JBER military installations.
