Overview
Bartlett Regional Hospital is searching for a Medical Assistant to join our Surgery & Specialty Clinics team. This role supports multi-specialty clinic functions by participating in direct patient care during office visits, in-office procedures, and the post-operative period for dermatology, oncology, and ophthalmology. This is an entry-level to journey-level position depending on the level (Medical Assistant 1 or Medical Assistant
2) and works under the supervision of a physician or licensed health care provider.
The Medical Assistant 1 and Medical Assistant 2 roles have different levels of responsibility and independence, with MA2 serving as a mentor to MA1 and performing more independent tasks after competencies are met.
Primary Duties- Medical Assistant 1:
Room patients, take health history and vitals, reconcile medication lists, and present to the general surgeon or specialty provider. Assist in the day-to-day flow of the surgery/specialty practice under supervision. Support clinic operations including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and filing records. - Medical Assistant 2:
Room patients, take health history and vitals, reconcile medication lists, and present to the general surgeon or specialty provider. Coordinate scheduling of radiology studies, endoscopy cases, and surgical cases for all clinic specialties. Provide administrative and clinical support for RN, LPN, Insurance Verification Specialists, and the Surgery Scheduler.
Medical Assistant 1
- Education:
High School diploma or equivalent. - Experience:
Twelve (12) months clerical experience in a healthcare setting required; or Six (6) months experience as a Certified Nurse Aid. - Substitution:
One (1) year of post-secondary coursework in any field may substitute for the experience requirement. - Certification:
Refer to Mandatory Education Policy and complete requirements within the given timeline upon hire.
Medical Assistant 2
- Education:
High School diploma or equivalent. - Experience:
Six (6) months of experience as a Medical Assistant I; or Six (6) months experience performing ambulatory or medical care working directly with patients; or Three (3) years of administrative experience in a healthcare setting (performing work equivalent to a BRH Clinical Administrative Assistant 2 or higher). - Substitution:
Medical Assistant Certificate may substitute for the experience requirement; or Two (2) years of post-secondary coursework may substitute for the experience requirement. - Certification:
Refer to Mandatory Education Policy and complete requirements within the given timeline upon hire.
- Medical Assistant 1 starts at $22.40 per hour.
- Medical Assistant 2 starts at $26.28 per hour.
All new employees are required to produce a negative drug screen for all illegal substances in the State of Alaska prior to start of employment.
