This position works 12-hour shifts from 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM or 8:00 PM – 8:00 AM. You will work three (3) shifts the first week with 4 days off, then (four) 4 shifts the next week with 3 days off. Work location is based out of the CARES Sobering Center located on Teal Street cent De Paul.
This position is the basic entry-level into the Community Assistance Response & Emergency Services section within the Fire Department.
Under the general direction of the CARES Program Manager, you will respond to calls for service treating our most vulnerable populations that are suffering the impacts of drug and alcohol abuse. This position operates CARES transport vehicles, or ambulances, and works both independently and with other emergency medical services personnel. After assessing the general condition of impaired, ill, or injured individuals, you will provide care and transportation to the most appropriate facility.
When transported to the Sobering Center, monitoring and reassessing is an essential part of duties. Those in this position will be provided with the opportunity and training to achieve their EMT I certification if they are not already certified, and their Fire Fighter I certification if this is something they desire.
Education:
- High School graduation or valid GED certificate.
Other:
- Not less than 18 years of age at time of appointment.
- A valid Driver’s License at time of appointment and for continued employment.
Certification(s):
- Valid Emergency Trauma Technician Certification within four (4) weeks of appointment and for continued employment.
- Certification as a State of Alaska Emergency Medical Technician I or higher within one year of appointment.
Education:
- High School graduation or valid GED certificate.
Other:
- Not less than 18 years of age at time of appointment.
- A valid Driver’s License at time of appointment and for continued employment.
Certification(s):
- Certification by the State of Alaska as an Emergency Medical Technician I or higher at time of appointment and for continued employment.
NOTE:
A background check will be required of all applicants prior to a final job offer. Applicants will be asked to complete a Waiver and Authorization to Release Information and Records. If an applicant has a conviction in their history the information will be reviewed in collaboration with Human Resources in accordance with 3 PR 025.
