Anchorage School District
- An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- A valid Alaska Registered Nurse license.
- A valid Alaska type C certificate with an endorsement in nursing.
- Experience working with children.
- Experience working as a nurse in a public education system.
- Evidence of flexibility to work in various educational settings.
- Flexibility to work varied hours and assignments.
- $250 per full day, $125 for half day.
- No medical or PERS/TRS retirement benefits.
- Unemployment benefits may be limited between academic years per Alaska law.
- Online application with transcripts or current Alaska type C certificate.
- Submit online hiring packet including:
- Substitute teacher data form
- W-4 form
- I-9 form
- Direct deposit form
- Alaska State Trooper’s report (cost $20, less than 30 days old).
- Military base access if needed.
- Perform duties of the nurse being replaced, with understanding that the substitute may not have the same educational background.
- Provide nursing services: immunizations, screenings, treatments, medications, diabetes and seizure management.
- Fill in for other duties during emergencies.
- Perform out-of-classroom duties like hall or lunch duty.
- Check in/out with principal/designee.
- Report within one hour of accepting an assignment.
- Refer to the Substitute Handbook for detailed rights and responsibilities.
- Physical and mental demands include frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, hearing, lifting less than 40 lbs, and handling conflict.
- Work environment includes indoor and outdoor settings with moderate noise.
- The district is committed to reasonable accommodations.
- Employment contingent on background checks.
- May work in ASD facilities on military installations.
