Job Summary

Food Service Assistant I: This position functions at the beginner level of the Food Service Assistant job class series. This position is primarily responsible for maintaining sanitation standards in assigned work areas; performing all functions related to customer meal delivery; performing customer meal preparation tasks.

Food Service Assistant II: This position functions at the advanced level of the Food Service Assistant job class series. This position is primarily responsible for maintaining sanitation standards in assigned work areas; performing all functions related to customer meal delivery; performing customer meal preparation tasks. Incumbents assist in orienting new staff to their assigned stations and assisting with the coordination of duties during assigned shifts.

Minimum Qualifications For The Job Food Service Assistant I
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in institutional food service is preferred.
  • Alaska Food Worker Card within 60 days of hire.
  • Must be 18 years of age. Ability to read, write, and speak English to interpret documents such as recipes, menus, meal tickets, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, logs, and manuals.
Food Service Assistant II
  • High School Diploma or the equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an FSA I at Bartlett or comparable experience in an institutional food service setting.
  • Must hold an Alaska Food Worker Card or obtain one within 60 days of hire.
  • Must be 18 years of age. Ability to read, write, and speak English to interpret documents such as recipes, menus, meal tickets, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, logs, and manuals.

Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.

External Hires: Step placement and pay rate based on relevant experience.

  • Food Service Assistant I starts at $20.47/hour
  • Food Service Assistant II starts at $22.40/hour
Additional Information
  • All new employees must produce a negative drug screen for illegal substances in Alaska prior to employment.
