Overview

As the only aerial tramway in Southeast Alaska, guests at the Goldbelt Tram are invited to soar to new heights in scenic adventure aboard Juneau's top attraction. We offer locals and visitors an opportunity to experience breathtaking Alaska scenery, explore the miles of trails atop Mount Roberts, and learn more about Alaska Native culture.

Summary

The Specialty Sales Associates are responsible for promoting, demonstrating, and selling Alaska Native/American Indian art and merchandise. They are also responsible for achieving customer satisfaction, revenue generation, and long‑term account goals in line with the company vision and values. Part‑time and full‑time schedules are available. The job is based in beautiful Juneau, Alaska, and applicants should either live in Juneau or be willing to relocate at their own expense.

and Benefits

Seasonal Employees are eligible for the Seasonal Employee Layoff Bonus Plan, which provides incentive compensation during the assignment term. Goldbelt may also award discretionary performance bonuses. Starting Rate: $22.00 – DOE.

Responsibilities
  • Promote the sale of authentic Native art merchandise and initiate and close sales.
  • Meet daily, weekly, and monthly sales goals.
  • Actively promote merchandise and offer all customers prompt service.
  • Demonstrate technical selling skills and product knowledge to give effective presentations of Alaska Native/American Indian Art and merchandise.
  • Maintain a friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous demeanor at all times.
  • Operate the cash register; make and record cash receipt transactions; assume responsibility for the gift shop bank/till.
  • Keep the retail space neat and orderly.
  • Greet customers at the store and offer assistance, judging each customer's preference for assistance or independent shopping.
  • Guide customers who know what they want to the correct section or make suggestions to those who are not certain.
  • Provide information and history on the products and Alaska Native peoples.
  • Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications Necessary Skills and Knowledge
  • Knowledge of Alaska Native/American Indian art and merchandise.
  • Knowledge of Southeast Alaska Native peoples.
  • Highly organized, self‑motivated, and attentive to detail.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Interest in learning about products and competitors.
  • Professional manner to assist customers throughout the purchasing process.
  • Ability to work with all types of customers.
  • Ability to learn, understand, and follow written instructions.
  • Skill in establishing cooperative relationships with other employees.
  • Cash handling skills.
  • Ability to meet time and attendance requirements.
  • Ability to work all shifts, including days, evenings, holidays, and weekends.
  • Stress management under pressure.
  • Quality customer service provision.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to share local history, people, culture, geography, etc., with guests.
  • Basic cleaning knowledge.
  • Detail oriented.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years sales clerk experience in a gift shop.
  • Proven ability to achieve sales quotas.
  • Current CPR and first aid certificates.
  • Drug testing may be required.
  • Three (3) years of experience selling native arts and crafts.
  • Prior tram operations experience.
