Overview

As the only aerial tramway in Southeast Alaska, guests at Goldbelt Tram are invited to soar to new heights in scenic adventure aboard Juneau's top attraction. We offer locals and visitors an opportunity to experience breathtaking Alaska scenery, explore the miles of trails atop Mount Roberts, and learn more about Alaska Native culture.

Under the direction of the Retail Manager, the Assistant Retail Manager assists with the management and supervision of retail staff, and overall operations of Raven Eagle Gifts & Gallery.

Location

Juneau, Alaska. Applicants must live in Juneau or be open to relocating at their own expense.

Pay and Benefits

Seasonal Employees are eligible for the Seasonal Employee Layoff Bonus Plan. Goldbelt, Inc. may grant discretionary performance bonuses. Starting rate: $28.00 per hour (DOE).

Responsibilities
  • Supervises the daily operations of the Tramway retail enterprises and staff, including opening/closing of shop facilities, staffing scheduling, vendor and customer interactions, security, account maintenance, reconciliation and reporting of daily cash receipts, and computer problem resolution.
  • Determines and implements daily operating procedures; ensures staff is informed of characteristics, artists, background, and items for sale.
  • Exercises supervisory authority over retail and gift shop staff at the Tramway terminal locations; responsible for training, evaluation, and discipline in consultation with the Retail Manager and General Manager.
  • Assists with strategies that contribute to product sales, profitability, and excellent customer service skills for staff.
  • Instructs, evaluates, and motivates subordinate employees related to both retail sales and tram operations.
  • Maintains a neat, safe, and efficient retail space; ensures sales products are properly displayed and stocked.
  • Assists in inventory management.
  • Upholds and assures staff compliance with Goldbelt’s policies and procedures; acts as liaison between front‑line staff and management.
  • Ensures all customers receive prompt service; handles packaging and shipping services.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
  • Maintains the  website, social media sites, and promotes marketing campaigns through newsletters.
  • Fills in for the retail manager in their absence as needed.
Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge

  • Highly proficient sales and cash handling skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to learn, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of retail operations, inventory control, transaction processing, and retail products.
  • Proficient with personal computer and various software.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • Experience and knowledge of social media outlets in a professional arena.
  • Good judgment and discretion when dealing with sensitive topics.
  • Ability to meet time and attendance requirements.
  • Ability to work shifts including days, evenings, holidays and weekends.
  • Ability to handle stress under pressure.
  • Ability to provide quality customer service.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships with employees.
  • Ability to work directly with the public, providing information and assistance.
  • Ability/willingness to learn and pass on local history, people, culture, geography to guests.
  • Some knowledge of basic cleaning principles, equipment and products.
  • Detail oriented.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 12 months of supervisory experience in a retail environment, covering all shop activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current CPR and first aid certificates.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience in a retail environment.
  • Associate of Arts degree in business, bookkeeping, or related field.
