Station Agent – Seward (Alaska Railroad) – State of Alaska
Seasonal position starting April 2026.
Purpose of the PositionServe the traveling public by managing ticketing, baggage service, and tour package sales.
Duties and Responsibilities- Act as liaison between personnel, vendors, hotels, cruise operators, and other transportation services regarding traffic flow and baggage handling.
- Resolve problems with lost or damaged bags, maintain inventory control of revenue baggage checks, and represent the railroad to the public and travel partners.
- Assist with customer, vendor, and on‑board sales issues, including loading/unloading, stowing, and delivering baggage using a forklift.
- Maintain general housekeeping, cleanup, and safety of the station and surrounding grounds.
- Sell tickets and manage seat assignments using a computerized reservation system; issue cash and make daily change orders.
- Compile daily business transaction reports and maintain accurate records of ticket stock and revenues.
- Develop work schedules, monitor performance standards, provide training and coaching to employees, and conduct weekly safety meetings.
- Operate a forklift (40–100 lb loads) and drive a vehicle as required; possess a valid driver’s license.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least six months of verifiable front‑line customer service experience.
- Basic accounting skills: handling money, making change, and reconciling cash balances.
- Proficiency using a 10‑key machine.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Sound judgment in problem solving.
- Valid driver’s license.
- One year’s experience in the travel or tourism industry.
- Experience operating a computerized reservation system.
- Knowledge of railroad terminology, passenger and baggage tariffs, services, schedules, and ticketing procedures.
- Experience operating a forklift.
