The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County. A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.
The Regional Park and Open‑Space District (Parks) is seeking an Interpretive Services Supervisor – Parks to assist in developing and expanding educational and interpretive programming, events, and revenue opportunities for Riverside County’s seven nature centers and historic interpretive sites.
The Interpretive Services Supervisor will rotate through the seven sites providing supervision, inspiration, and support. Additionally, the supervisor will help develop branding for the interpretive sites, assist with budgeting, perform administrative work, fill in for interpretive staff, and expand and/or develop additional sources of revenue.
The ideal candidate will be imaginative, enthusiastic, and business‑focused, with excellent leadership and management skills. Preferred qualifications include Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) or California Naturalist certification, experience working in a local, state, or national park, experience working with volunteers, and experience developing and delivering programs for elementary‑aged children. Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, Adobe, and the Itinio POS system or similar software is desired.
WorkSchedule
This position follows a 5/40 schedule, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Availability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime will be required to support special events and to meet departmental operational needs.

Job Responsibilities- Plans, develops, and implements natural and historical interpretive programs and events within the Parks Interpretive Division.
- Develops training sessions for field personnel and instructs field personnel in interpreting natural, cultural, and historical areas to the general public; provides operations interpretive staff with maintenance and safety support at various interpretive sites (Nature Centers and Historical Sites).
- Provides public outreach to local schools to encourage continued local interest in educational programming while helping teachers meet educational standards in the fields science, history and anthropology.
- Coordinates student field trips; organizes displays depicting natural, cultural and historical resources; also speaks before groups regarding natural, historical and cultural topics.
- Establishes plans for developing outreach to new customers and increases public awareness of Riv Co Parks interpretive sites and programs to the community.
- Performs research, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of marketing plans; plans, justifies and monitors budget.
- Provides day‑to‑day support of interpretive staff handling scheduling and employee evaluations; provides support, direction and leadership at various interpretive sites (Nature Centers and Historical Sites) establishing adequate staffing levels and operational hours.
- Prepares periodic reports of activities and correspondence regarding the parks interpretive function.
Education:
Graduation from a recognized college with major work in the natural sciences, park administration, or a closely related field; additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
Experience:
Two years of experience in nature of wildlife interpretive functions for a parks or forestry department, educational institution, or museum.
Physical Requirements
License:
Possession of a valid California Class C (or above) driver’s license is required at the time of application since the Interpretive Services Supervisor rotates among the seven interpretive sites.

The Interpretive Services Supervisor performs interpretive functions and helps with events, which requires moving equipment, heavy boxes of books/material, animal tanks and other items.
