Position: Part Time Recreation Instructor (Youth and Family Programs PT Seasonal)

Primary Objective of Position

Provide supervision of participants, plan, organize and instruct activities at various locations across Bloomington in cooperation with the Summer Leadership Team and Recreation Supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a safe, fun and appropriate experience for all participants.
  • Assists the Program Leads or Program Specialists in the planning, organizing and leadership of various activities at multiple sites and camps.
  • Assumes responsibility for leading specific programs or activities as delegated by Program Leads or Program Specialists.
  • Assists in filling out weekly attendance reports and written post-season evaluation of program and recommendations for next season.
  • Prepares all reports required on participants, incidents and property damage.
  • Provides support as needed for all participants and staff to create an inclusive environment.
  • Works as a team member to ensure the program’s compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Minnesota Human Rights Act.
  • Attends and participates in all staff trainings and meetings.
  • Provides mentorship and work direction for Teen Volunteers.
  • Follows staff policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that all participants follow the established policies and procedures.
  • Completes all other duties as assigned by Program Leads or Program Specialists.
  • Adheres to and enforces state health guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 15 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to attend staff training on June 10th - 12th.
  • Must have a means of transportation to and from assigned locations.
  • Must successfully pass a Criminal Background Check.
  • Must have experience working with children.
Desirable Qualifications
  • High School or College student with 1+ years working in a community recreation or education program.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child behavior, ability to relate with and supervise children successfully.
  • Ability to help with and plan a variety of recreation activities with preschool, elementary and junior high age youth; knowledge and skills in leading activities, including sports, indoor and outdoor games.
  • Creativity in developing and implementing new program ideas.
  • A willingness to learn about and support people with disabilities so they can participate fully in City sponsored Parks and Recreation programs.
Supplemental Information

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
This position supervises registered participants.

Anticipated Hiring Range

2026 Full Salary Range: $16.76‑$19.61

Candidates who are 15 are typically scheduled June 10‑12 and/or June 24‑26th for training and work 4‑5 weeks of the summer 28+ hours per week.

Bonus Incentives Commitment Bonus

A seasonal employee who works until at least August 14th will receive $100 bonus on their final paycheck.

Referral Bonus

A seasonal employee who refers a new seasonal employee will receive $100 bonus on their final paycheck. Referral paperwork required within one week of employee’s start date and both employees must be employed for the entirety of the scheduled season to be eligible.
