Sr. Project Engineering Manager – Water & Wastewater The Opportunity

As the Sr. Project Engineering Manager for Water & Wastewater, you will manage execution of the engineering component of multiple traditional, design‑build, design‑bid‑build, and collaborative delivery projects including advanced treatment facilities, underground conveyance, and carbon neutral solutions. This role presents an opportunity to lead a multidisciplinary team, supervise and mentor staff, and manage project budgets, schedules, and client communications.

• Lead a multi‑discipline team of engineers and technicians on high‑profile municipal projects.
• Supervise and mentor engineering staff, identifying developmental growth opportunities.
• Prepare complex engineering deliverables for multiple or mega projects.
• Conduct research to develop equipment and material recommendations.
• Oversee collection of data and management of engineering work.
• Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and quality requirements across multiple disciplines.
• Lead larger production teams, coordinate discipline activities, and serve as the responsible charge for complex projects.
• Establish a workplan to be applied to a project.
• Identify key client interests and drivers for highly complex projects.
• Communicate client concerns to project team members and develop solutions.
• Provide support for business development or pursuit activities.
• Manage project changes directly with the client in collaboration with project management.
• Serve as technical leader for complex water and wastewater treatment projects.
• Review lower‑level engineering work or assignments.
• Conduct hiring, mentoring, performance management, and pay administration of assigned personnel.

Functions as a technical specialist with management and administrative responsibilities for a group. May supervise multi‑discipline engineering staff on projects of medium to high complexity, and is recognized as a key reference for technical guidance through depth and breadth of knowledge.

• PE license.
• Previous engineering consulting experience.
• Experience executing complex multi‑discipline WTP and WWTP upgrades and expansion projects.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 11 years of related work experience.
• Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background checks, drug screen, vehicle records).
• Active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements.

Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for Black & Veatch projects in applicable countries.

• Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days based on job performance.
• Sitting, standing, and computer usage for extended periods.
• Use of video/audio conferencing software tools for internal/external communication.
• Travel to client sites.
