Assist in implementing the divisions’ Adaptive Recreation summer programs, under the supervision of the Parks and Recreation Supervisor and the direction of the Recreation Coordinator. Provide on‑and off‑site leadership by planning, organizing, training, and directing staff to deliver high‑quality adaptive recreation programs for participants with disabilities.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a safe, fun and appropriate experience for all participants.
  • Assist the Recreation Supervisor and Recreation Coordinator with managing, scheduling and providing work direction for staff and Adaptive Recreation for participants.
  • Together with the Recreation Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor, plan, organize and direct activities for all participants.
  • Communicate regularly with Supervisor and Parks and Recreation Coordinator.
  • Plan and prepare written post‑season evaluation of program and recommendations for next season.
  • Responsible for all preparation, submitting and reviewing all reports required on participants, volunteers, staff, incidents and property damage.
  • Develop sensitivity as to when to offer assistance and when to allow natural dynamics to help a individual succeed.
  • Encourage social interactions between and among all participants.
  • Work as a team member to ensure that the programs are in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Minnesota Human Rights Act.
  • Attend, participate in, and help to facilitate staff trainings and meetings.
  • Follow staff policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all staff and program participants follow the established policies and procedures.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned by the Recreation Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to attend training on June 10th‑12th and complete online training/paperwork.
  • Must successfully pass a Criminal Background Check.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Supervisory and/or Leadership experience in a recreation or educational setting.
  • Knowledge of and skill in outdoor recreation, crafts, games, nature and special events.
  • A willingness to learn about and support people with disabilities so they can participate fully in City‑sponsored Parks and Recreation programs.
  • Must have good communication, leadership and organizational skills.
  • Desirable Qualifications
    • Supervisory and/or Leadership experience.
    • One year of college and experience working in community recreation or education programs supporting people with disabilities.
    • Knowledge and understanding of Adaptive Recreation, experience in recreational sports, games and arts and crafts, and an ability to relate with people with disabilities.
    • Ability to manage time and work independently with minimum supervision.
    • A willingness to learn about and support people with disabilities so they can participate fully in City‑sponsored Parks and Recreation programs.
