Job OverviewThe M TX TRANSMISSION & DISTRIBUTION ENGINEERING Department of the H ENGINEERING Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 management vacancy available. This posting seeks to fill either an Engineer I or Engineer II (T&D) position; whichever level is most suited to the qualifications of the candidate.
Engineer IJob Function: Under direct supervision of higher level professional engineers, performs design, project engineering, project management and general engineering duties in support of the capital construction programs of Hawaiian Electric.
Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.
- Prepares plans, layouts, design calculations and related engineering design in accordance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Conducts project design and cost alternative studies, field inspections, and prepares associated reports.
- Prepares and manages cost estimates, budgets, schedules, material and construction specifications and construction contracts for projects assigned.
- Performs project engineering and project management functions for assigned projects.
- Coordinates work by consulting engineers, evaluates proposals and bids for engineering services and equipment and makes recommendations.
- Participates in company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.
- Understands the company’s policies, mission, vision, values, and follows the culture dimensions to ensure the success of the company.
Job Function: Performs design, project engineering, project management, and general engineering duties in support of the capital construction programs of Hawaiian Electric.
Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered.
- Prepares plans, layouts, design calculations, and related engineering design work in accordance with company standards, applicable codes, ordinances and regulations. Develops new or improved techniques and procedures for equipment, material, products, or methods.
- Performs project engineering and project management functions on major capital projects for Hawaiian. Works with City/County, State, and Federal government agencies on rules, regulations and permits regarding projects.
- Conducts engineering studies, prepares reports, and reviews/comments on technical reports and studies prepared by others.
- Prepares requests for proposal for engineering services, evaluates proposals and makes recommendations. Directs design efforts by consultants and checks designs prepared by consultants.
- Prepares material, equipment construction specifications for bid, and evaluates proposals and makes recommendations for purchase.
- Develops project schedules and project cost estimates for inclusion in the capital budget.
- Conducts field inspections to verify field conditions and check compliance with specifications, then prepares reports of findings.
- Understands company’s policies, mission, vision, values, and follows the culture dimensions to ensure the success of the company.
- Participates in company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.
- B.S. degree in engineering in a discipline relevant to the department from an accredited engineering school.
- Thorough knowledge of engineering theories and principles acquired through advanced college-level courses or equivalent experience.
- Working knowledge of engineering design, project engineering, project management and construction methods associated with electric utility facilities normally acquired through a minimum of 3–5 years relevant engineering experience.
