Recruitment Number 24-152JC, Judicial Clerk III, SR-14, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

Performs a variety of court clerical work in the preparation, processing, and maintenance of court records for a division within the Circuit, District, Family, Land/Tax Appeal, or Appellate Courts. Performs other related duties as required.

Education Requirement:

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Excess experience of the type described below or work experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions or a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Experience Requirements:
  • General

    Experience:

    Two (2) years of general clerical work experience.
  • Specialized

    Experience:

    Six (6) months of work experience in a court, legal, criminal justice, law enforcement, or corrections setting, including examining, preparing, and/or processing legal forms and documents.
  • Skill Requirement:

    Applicants must be able to type 40 net words per minute. Proficiency may be evaluated by the appointing authority. Failure to meet this requirement may result in suspension of eligibility. The Judiciary's Human Resources Department reserves the right to test applicants if there is evidence of insufficient proficiency.

    Substitutions Allowed:

    Education for General Experience: Education at an accredited college or university may substitute for experience at a rate of 15 semester credits for six months, up to two years.

    Education for Specialized Experience:

  • Education in a paralegal, legal studies, law program, or a closely related field may substitute for six months of specialized experience per 15 semester credits, up to one year.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Political Science, or a related field may substitute for one year of specialized experience.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Driver's License: For certain positions, a valid driver's license is required.
    • Firearms

      Qualification:

      For certain positions, applicants must be qualified to possess firearms or ammunition according to laws, with no misdemeanor or felony domestic violence convictions.
