Community Service Worker I

Initiates contacts with the elderly and other designated target groups and provides information on available community and governmental resources; assesses the needs of program participants and assists participants in obtaining needed social, health, and recreational services; provides transportation, in-home, and other support services; and performs other related duties as required. There are ten (10) immediate vacancies with the Department of Parks and Recreation - Elderly Activities Division.

May be eligible to receive a Recruitment Incentive up to $2,000. Conditions apply.

Vacancies include:

• Three (3) permanent full-time vacancies in Kailua-Kona
• One (1) permanent part-time vacancy in Kailua-Kona
• Two (2) permanent part-time vacancies in Kealakekua/Captain Cook
• One (1) permanent part-time vacancy in Laupahoehoe
• One (1) permanent part-time vacancy in Na'alehu
• One (1) permanent part-time vacancy in Oceanview
• One (1) permanent part-time vacancy in Papa'aloa

Certain Community Service Worker I positions are designated as career ladder positions. The next levels in the series are:

• Community Service Worker II, SR-09, $3,333/month
• Community Service Worker III, SR-11, $3,606/month

Persons hired into career ladder positions must meet the minimum qualification requirements for the next level in the series, perform work at the higher level, and meet performance requirements to move to the next level in the career ladder.

The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.

Training and

Experience:

• Graduation from high school, and
• One (1) year of experience which shall have involved meeting and dealing with people.

License Requirement:

• Possession of a valid State of Hawai`i driver's license (Class
  3) or any other valid comparable driver's license at time of filing. (You will be required to submit your valid driver's license at time of hire).

Note:

Possession of a current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification or other current equivalent certificates prior to completion of probation

Examination:
All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant's training, education and experience as presented in the application. Please read the minimum qualification requirements carefully. Be certain to list all pertinent training and experience, as this may be important in determining your examination score.
