The department of Psychiatry, Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) seeks a board eligible or board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist to join its growing academic department. The psychiatry residency program is a fully accredited program with 24 residents (6 per year with accreditation up to 8 per year). This is a newer medical school that is looking to expand and enhance psychiatric clinical services, research, and both medical student and resident training.

There are significant clinical and research collaborations with community mental health care (SWMBH and ISK), the VA system (BCVHA), and collaborative care psychiatry arrangements with a number of Bronson primary care, family medicine, obstetrics and pediatric practice groups. Western Michigan University has a long history of teaching and training for individuals with autism spectrum disorder, and is a leader this area regionally.

In addition, there is a strong group of doctoral level psychologists within the Department of Pediatrics, providing subspecialty care to children in the community.

Responsibilities

We are seeking board certified or eligible psychiatrists who are interested and passionate about patient care, teaching and clinical research. The candidate will join 1.5 full-time child psychiatrists who are currently on the faculty. Clinical responsibilities will include a combination of inpatient adolescent and partial program, outpatient through the community mental health provider (CMH), Integrated Services of Kalamazoo (ISK), and consultative work.

For a qualified candidate, the possibility of building a child and adolescent fellowship program will be explored. This opportunity features:

  • Option to focus on either inpatient service in their 6-bed adolescent unit or 12-bed partial program, psychiatric consults in the Bronson Children’s Hospital, or outpatient care in a CMH clinic.

Qualifications
  • An MD/DO degree or equivalent
  • Licensure to practice medicine in Michigan
  • Board Certified in General Psychiatry
  • Board Certified or Eligible for Board Certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
