Sr. Scientist, Process Innovation Engineer

Job Summary:

The Process Innovation Engineer/Scientist will play a critical role in developing and implementing innovative delivery systems for food ingredients and innovate both within Kalsec, Inc.’s core competencies and beyond. This position will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, optimize, and scale processes that align with the Kalsec’s strategic objectives for innovation, sustainability, and technical excellence.

Job Responsibilities:

• Design and develop novel delivery systems for food ingredients to enhance stability, functionality, and performance in various applications and
• Collaborate with formulation scientists and other R&D teams to translate concepts into scalable processes.
• Conduct experimental design, process optimization, and validation for new technologies and formulations.
• Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to improve efficiency, sustainability, and product quality.
• Prepare technical documentation, including process flow diagrams, SOPs, and validation reports.
• Providing technical expertise to the different Business Unit Directors, thereby enhancing Kalsec, Inc.’s technical reputation, while providing customers with advanced technical presentations supportive of Kalsec, Inc.’s business aims
• Support commercialization efforts by working with manufacturing teams to scale up processes from lab to pilot and production scale.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, regulatory, and quality standards throughout the development process.
• Present technical findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders and customers as needed.

Education/

Experience:

Required:

• Master’s degree in chemistry, Food Chemistry, Biochemistry or bachelor’s degree in engineering, Food Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in process development, formulation, or related roles in the food, beverage, or ingredient industry.
• Strong understanding of food ingredient functionality, encapsulation, and delivery systems.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.

Desired:

• Knowledge of emulsions, encapsulation technologies, and controlled release systems.
• Hands‑on experience with Spray dryer, fluid bed dryer, microfluidizer and other homogenization techniques.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements for food ingredients.

• Computer-

• Working with liquids, dry powders, solvents and reagents in a chemistry lab environment
• Basic motions of bending, leaning, lifting, twisting and turning with the need to lift 4 ounces to 10 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 25 pounds on an infrequent basis
• Lab work will involve standing and walking between lab benches and rooms between 4‑8 hours per day

• 0‑15% Domestic travel
