Position detailsPart-time - 16 hours per week, after school hours
Wage:
Hourly $17 - $19 per hour
- The Prevention Associate works closely with the Prevention Specialist. He/She/They will assist with Prevention related activities, community outreach, group facilitation, office and other duties as assigned.
- Will provide advocacy, information, referrals, and evidence based educational instruction for Regional off-site youth programs.
- Embrace, support and implement Community Healing Centers vision and values related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Understand and adhere to strict confidentiality rules and regulations for the protection of all clients served.
- Some work takes place outside of normal business hours; flexible working hours required.
- Valid Driver’s License, insurance coverage, and a vehicle; must be clear of any incidents or suspensions within a 2-year period.
- Complete all requirements/training according to the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP) and preparation of the ICRC Examination within a 2 year period with support from the Regional Coordinator and CHC Supervisor.
- Complete mandatory Relias trainings, in seat and online, as mandated by the terms of the Community Healing Center and those necessary for the Evidence-Based Programs.
- Keep records of content, trainings, CEUs, and log training information to provide documentation needed for the Certified Prevention Specialist exam.
- Strong communication skills both oral and written (bilingual preferred; not required).
- Attend all meetings as required.
- Strong organization and record keeping skills.
- Good computer skills (experience in using Excel is preferred).
- Willingness to present to CHC Board, community organizations and stakeholders relevant to Prevention Services.
- Actively participate in CHC committees and organizations throughout the Kalamazoo Region.
- Track Evidence Based Programs that are facilitated by the Prevention Associate (2+ sessions per week).
- Communicate questions and concerns regarding prevention service work directly to supervisor.
- Learn about substance use disorders and the effects on adolescents and families.
- Use evidence-based curricula to teach high-risk populations and facilitate Family & Friends groups for family members of those in recovery.
- Foster equity for diverse populations and individuals with substance use disorders and/or mental health issues.
- Demonstrate knowledge of barriers affecting urban youth populations and their families.
- Be cognizant of cultural differences in learning and their impact on urban youth and families.
- Provide instruction to high-risk youth in multiple contextual settings.
- Some weekend events may be required; coordinate prevention services within Juvenile Home, Street and Niña’s after school programs education components with Evidence Based Curriculum.
- Assist in coordinating and attending events, functions, and fundraisers with grass roots community events and other organizations.
- Build a positive rapport with youth, families and the community.
- Multi-tasking, flexibility, and utilization of intrapersonal and interpersonal skills are required.
- Maintain healthy personal and work boundaries.
- Demonstrate humility, compassion, and professionalism with trauma-informed approaches to meet the cultural needs of clients served.
The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to client-site conditions; noise levels can be loud. This position may require infrequent exposure to outside weather conditions.

TravelMust have a vehicle; travel is primarily local during the business day, with some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected for training purposes.
