Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg neuro unit night shift position with MI RN license and NIHSS certification required.
Responsibilities- Work in a 40-bed Medical Surgical unit specializing in neurological disorders and spinal surgeries
- Patient population includes stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, spinal surgery, and seizure monitoring starting at age 5
- Unit includes step-down/telemetry and bariatric beds, as well as a four-bed Neuro Monitoring Unit
- Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours, from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
- Required to work every other weekend
- May float to other Med/Surg units, ICU units, and ED waiting rooms as needed
- Typical night shift nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6; charge nurse is free when fully staffed
- Uses EPIC EMR and Pyxis medication dispensing systems
- Care for patients with complex neurological conditions and post-operative spinal procedures
- Six telemetry beds and six bariatric beds allow care for a diverse patient population
- No LPNs on night shift; team structure adjusts based on RN staffing levels
- No requested time off (RTO) allowed in the first two weeks of the assignment
- Active MI RN license required
- Current BLS (AHA) certification required
- NIHSS certification required, pending is acceptable if obtained prior to start
- 1-2 years of recent Med/Surg nursing experience preferred
