Travel RN - Med​/Surg

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 40-bed neurological specialty unit, requiring an active MI RN license and BLS/NIHSS certification.

• Active Michigan RN license required
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• NIHSS certification required, or willingness to complete prior to start
• 1-2 years of Med/Surg experience preferred
• Proof of flu vaccination required, with exemption requests submitted within 48 hours of signing
• Supervisor-level references required

• 40-bed Medical Surgical unit specializing in neurological disorders including Stroke, Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, and inflammatory brain/spinal cord conditions
• Large spinal surgery population including post-operative neuro-surgery, ortho-surgery, Laminectomy, and Spinal Fusion patients
• Unit includes six step-down/telemetry beds and six bariatric beds
• Four-bed Neuro Monitoring Unit admitting seizure patients age 5 and up for diagnostic workup
• Night shift ratios of 1:5-6 with no LPN support on nights
• Charge nurse takes patients when unit is understaffed below 5 RNs
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hour shifts from 7:00 to 19:30
• Every other weekend required
• May float to other Med/Surg units, ICU units, and ED waiting rooms
• Uses EPIC charting system and Pyxis medication dispensing
• Care for a diverse patient population spanning neurological, spinal surgery, step-down/telemetry, and bariatric needs
• Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions, except where local rate policies apply
• Previous internal travelers may return after 6 months; previous permanent staff may return after 1 year
• RTO limited to no more than 10 days
• Charge nurse experience preferred
