Security Officer I Part Time Days – Detroit Medical Center

Primary location: Commerce Township, Michigan.
Facility: DMC Huron Valley‑Sinai Hospital.
Job type: Part‑time.
Shift type: Day.

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, the Security Officer provides protection to the hospital, patients, visitors, employees, and their property.

• Presents a visible security presence to prevent criminal opportunity, performs patrols of assigned area, and maintains awareness of the environment.
• Assists patients, guests, and staff by providing general information and controlling access through badge and pass checks.
• Performs public service duties such as escorting patients or guests, assisting locked‑out individuals, opening or locking doors, and providing battery boosts.
• Prepares reports documenting incidents, investigations, crimes, lost or found property, safety hazards, and repair requests.
• Monitors parking lots and decks, ensures compliance with parking regulations, and directs traffic as needed.
• Monitors security and fire equipment, answers telephones, and provides information to public and staff.
• Engages in additional education and training in criminal law, first aid, defensive tactics, and other relevant topics.
• Assists in releasing bodies from the morgue.
• Responds to emergency codes in accordance with hospital and security policies.
• Promotes DMC values through quality, community welfare, respect, teamwork, communication, innovation, and efficient resource use.

• High school diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of experience in security and/or public law enforcement or military police.
• Minimum of two years of college coursework in criminal justice, security administration, or related field, and three (3) years of experience in security and/or public law enforcement or military police.
• Completion of the State of Michigan MCOLES certified police academy and three (3) years of experience in security and/or public law enforcement or military police.
• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, security administration, or related area with participation in security or law‑enforcement programs such as a police reserve internship or volunteer work.
• Valid State of Michigan driver’s license and eligibility for coverage as a driver of DMC vehicles.

• Academic ability to meet state certification requirements under Public Act 330 and Michigan State Police and DMC standards.
• Interpersonal skills, self‑confidence, and physical conditioning to confront and control hostile persons safely.
• Analytical and observational ability to recognize suspicious behavior, criminal activity, and safety hazards.
• Verbal and written communication skills to compose clear, concise reports of events and investigations.
