General Responsibilities

It is the responsibility of the Class A truck driver to deliver product between stores, warehouses, and plant. The Class A truck driver will regularly drive a tractor-trailer but will drive other vehicles as needed. This is a full time position—some Saturdays may be required. Must have forklift experience and be available to work overtime as needed. The driver will demonstrate the agency’s core values of success, collaboration, people and productivity.

Essential

Duties, Responsibilities and Functions
  • Make pick-ups and deliveries to stores in a safe and timely manner.
  • Operate vehicle according to various municipal requirements, e.g., speed limits and seasonal loads.
  • Ensure that all loads are secure and all product is delivered without damage.
  • Switch trailers; load and unload trucks safely.
  • Inspect truck daily and maintain a daily inspection record that is accurate and legible; report any need for repairs promptly and in writing.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Commercial Services Supervisor or designee.
Required Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver License.

Ability to read, write and express ideas in English.

Ability to perform mathematical functions as needed: addition, subtraction, multiplication.

Ability to solve problems on the fly.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly, occasionally lift up to 75 pounds; frequent reaching, bending, twisting, standing, stooping; ability to see with corrective lenses, ability to hear; sitting and operating vehicle for extended periods.

Other

Must maintain qualifications for Class A DOT license, including meeting DOT physical requirements and random drug screens.

Must be able to work five days per week, eight hours per day, occasional weekend call-in.

Regularly lift 50 lbs; stand, stoop, bend, reach for 5‑7 hours per day.

Must pass a pre‑employment drug screen and theft‑related background check.

Must be approved to drive under the Agency’s Commercial Vehicle insurance policy.

There is no inter‑state travel.
