Position: Transportation Dispatcher (SEC II)

TRANSPORATION DISPATCHER (SEC II)

Rate of Pay:
Per the PEAO Master Agreement, starting $17.62

DESCRIPTION

The Bus Dispatcher coordinates and monitors daily bus operations to ensure safe, timely, and efficient transportation of students and/or passengers. This position serves as the main communication link between drivers, the transportation department, and school/building personnel. This position provides clerical and administrative support to the Transportation Coordinator, including data entry, recordkeeping, and general office assistance. Part‑time and may include early morning, afternoon or evenings shifts.

ESSENTIAL

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Schedule, assign, and adjust bus routes and driver assignments as needed.
  • Monitor bus locations and schedules to ensure on‑time performance.
  • Receive and respond to calls, messages, and radio communications from drivers, parents, and staff.
  • Provide drivers with updated route instructions, detour information, and weather‑related changes.
  • Maintain accurate records of routes, driver logs, and service calls.
  • Assist in emergency situations by dispatching resources and communicating with appropriate personnel.
  • Collaborate with mechanics, supervisors, and drivers to address vehicle issues promptly.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Transportation Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in dispatching, transportation, or logistics preferred.
  • Prior experience in school transportation, bus dispatching, or related field desirable.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications and dispatching software.
  • Knowledge of local geography, streets, and school locations.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to get along and communicate with staff, administrators, public, and others.
