SUMMARY
The Adjunct Instructor is responsible for teaching courses in the Nursing division as assigned. Teaching assignments may include alternative delivery methods, and includes day, evening, and weekend classes. Must be able to work collegially in a team environment.
The Adjunct Instructor provides instruction and guidance to nursing students in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical environments, evaluates student progress, and prepares students to take the Montana NCLEX-RN exam. The Adjunct Instructor ensures program compliance with the Montana State Board of Nursing (SBON).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Serves as a professional role model to students
- Following FVCC's state-approved curriculum, prepares and effectively teaches RN courses in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings by conveying knowledge of the subject area and demonstrating the ability to plan, organize, implement and evaluate instructional materials in assigned areas for successful student learning outcomes
- Provides guidance and direction necessary to allow students to achieve pre-established course objectives and contribute to preparation for the NCLEX-RN exam
- Works with the Nursing Program Director to maintain the program’s compliance with the SBON
- Integrates subject area with other related curricula
- Serves as an ambassador for the College and fosters cooperative relationships with clinical sites, community groups, educational institutes, business and industry, and other external partners to enhance and promote the College and encourage student recruitment
- Works within and supports FVCC mission, policies and procedures
- Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies
- Engages in collaborative and respectful working relationships with students, campus and clinical staff, faculty colleagues on campus and in the clinical sites
- Conveys knowledge of the subject area in an effective manner for successful student learning outcomes.
- Fosters positive student and community relations.
- Maintains and submits instructional records in accordance with requirements.
- Integrates subject area with other related curricula.
- Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
- Works professionally with college faculty and staff to aid with the educational process.
- Remains current in practices, trends and research related to areas of assignment.
- Attends meetings and participates in student and/or program assessment as directed.
- Actively participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and efforts to continuously improve services to students, faculty, and the College.
- Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues and maintains effective working relationships.
- Reports to the Program Director, Nursing, or designee
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science Nursing degree from an accredited program; AND
- A minimum of three years of experience in nursing in maternity/labor and delivery, and/or pediatrics; AND
- Teaching experience in a nursing program or completed coursework in teaching methods, curriculum development, testing and evaluation; AND
- Current unencumbered Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Montana; AND
- Current Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification; AND
- Ability to travel within Montana when necessary, AND
- Valid Montana driver's license with insurable driving record upon hire
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited program
- Two years or more of completed course work in curriculum development, principles and methods of teaching, and measurement and evaluation of learner outcomes
- Two years or more of post-secondary teaching experience in a nursing program
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge and computer/technology skills adequate for educational and administrative requirements
- Ability to effectively and safely teach content and technical material
- Effective organizational and leadership skills;
- Working knowledge of use of technology in a learning environment
- Ability and willingness to serve as a representative for the College by interacting appropriately with the community and students
- Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC
- Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships
- Ability to follow and issue instructions
