OverviewThis role leads HDR’s Regional Transit Planning Practice by developing strategy, driving market growth, and delivering high‑quality transit planning services across the western United States.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with HDR’s Transit Planning Practice Leader to identify global and local needs, industry trends, required skills and emerging markets.
- Coordinate regional market drivers and develop products that meet client needs.
- Present regional transit planning activities and needs on regular Practice Group calls.
- Contribute to the technical development of transit planning staff in all areas: policy, systems/network planning, corridor planning and development, operations, safety, funding, and all transit modes.
- Identify market opportunities in partnership with Area Business Development Leaders and develop winning pursuit strategies.
- Identify industry talent and work with Area and Corporate leadership to attract and retain transit planning staff.
- Lead workshare communications that enhance technical excellence and utilization.
- Serve as project manager for major transit projects, delivering quality work on time and exceeding client expectations.
- Represent HDR at state and regional professional organizations.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Engineering, or related discipline required.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in transit planning with a broad skill set.
- Experience developing and implementing strategic plans related to team‐building, skills development, and business development.
- Master’s degree in Planning, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Professional registration such as AICP, PE, PTOE, PTP, PMP preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Planning, Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience with transportation planning.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills.
- Understanding of transit planning principles.
- Positive attitude and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and personnel.
- Solid business development skills and strong presentation skills.
- Commitment to being an active participant in an employee‑owned culture.

- Washington: $94,364 - $170,280
- Montana: $89,397 - $134,805
