Overview

This role leads HDR’s Regional Transit Planning Practice by developing strategy, driving market growth, and delivering high‑quality transit planning services across the western United States.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with HDR’s Transit Planning Practice Leader to identify global and local needs, industry trends, required skills and emerging markets.
  • Coordinate regional market drivers and develop products that meet client needs.
  • Present regional transit planning activities and needs on regular Practice Group calls.
  • Contribute to the technical development of transit planning staff in all areas: policy, systems/network planning, corridor planning and development, operations, safety, funding, and all transit modes.
  • Identify market opportunities in partnership with Area Business Development Leaders and develop winning pursuit strategies.
  • Identify industry talent and work with Area and Corporate leadership to attract and retain transit planning staff.
  • Lead workshare communications that enhance technical excellence and utilization.
  • Serve as project manager for major transit projects, delivering quality work on time and exceeding client expectations.
  • Represent HDR at state and regional professional organizations.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Engineering, or related discipline required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in transit planning with a broad skill set.
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic plans related to team‐building, skills development, and business development.
  • Master’s degree in Planning, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Professional registration such as AICP, PE, PTOE, PTP, PMP preferred.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience with transportation planning.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Understanding of transit planning principles.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and personnel.
  • Solid business development skills and strong presentation skills.
  • Commitment to being an active participant in an employee‑owned culture.
Benefits & Compensation

  • Washington: $94,364 - $170,280
  • Montana: $89,397 - $134,805
