Responsibilities
  • Work within a treatment team to help provide coordinated mental/behavioral health care to patients.
  • Complete comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for new clients; help with annual re-evaluations as needed.
  • Provide monthly (or more frequent) follow-up psychiatric visits with PACT patients.
  • Document patient care in accordance with AWARE policy and professional standards, and utilize AWARE's electronic health record.
  • Create psychiatric care plans and integrate them with existing behavioral/psychotherapeutic plans.
  • Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribe appropriate psychiatric medications as indicated.
  • Recognize physical health issues and refer patients for care as necessary.
  • Be available to teams as a resource regarding medications and treatments.
  • Evaluate responses to treatments and medications.
  • Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals both inside and outside of the organization.
  • Advocate for patients both within and outside of the organization.
  • Provide education and support to staff, patients, and families on managing psychiatric illness and disability.
  • Maintain licensure and certification required by AWARE, the State of Montana, and the federal government.
  • Participate in peer/record review process and other quality improvement initiatives as assigned.
  • Perform at or above productivity benchmarks identified by AWARE so that services are sustainable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge and commensurate skills in providing psychiatric care to children, adolescents, and adults, including those with co-existing intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • Accurate and effective written and verbal communication skills, and comfort working as part of, and sharing decision‑making with, a therapeutic team.
  • Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited nurse practitioner program.
  • Must have APRN licensure in the state where employed or a compact party state and be board certified.
  • Documented education and experience in providing psychiatric care as a nurse practitioner.
  • Must have prescriptive authorization.
  • Knowledge of computer‑based data management programs and information systems, and readiness to learn and adapt to new technology adopted by AWARE, and to provide input to the selection and implementation of such technology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in verbal and written form, with partners at various levels: patients, family members, physicians, treatment team members, and community representatives.
  • Sound understanding of all federal and state regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
