Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring a MT or compact RN license and at least 2 years of PICU experience.

Responsibilities
  • Position is in the PICU within a Level III Trauma Center
  • Unit has 6 PICU beds and 12 Med Surg Pediatric beds, and assignments may include both units
  • Provides care for respiratory, medical, surgical, trauma, neuro, and cardiac pediatric cases, including vent and trach management
  • PICU patient ratios are 1:1-2;
    Med Surg Peds ratios are 1:3-4
  • Works 12-hour night shifts with a requirement for 5 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
  • May float to NICU and Postpartum for lower acuity patients, with extra orientation available if needed
  • No on-call required; holiday coverage includes one summer and one winter holiday per year
  • Uses Meditech EMR, Baxter IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, Medfusion syringe pumps, and Alaris PCA
  • Duties include care and management of critically ill pediatric patients and those on respiratory support or drips
  • Charge RN available; department includes support from HUCs, respiratory therapists, pediatric hospitalist, and NNP, but no dedicated CNAs
  • PICC team present during the day; phlebotomy available for older children
  • Orientation includes NEO on Tuesdays and one unit shift, with additional orientation if needed for float areas
  • Scrubs may be any color but should be child-friendly; jackets and vests allowed
  • Free parking available
  • Holiday assignments are determined by group and include both the day before and the day of the designated holidays
  • Time off requests go through manager approval
Requirements
  • Active MT or compact state RN license required
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required; if PICU experience began directly out of school, 3 years is required
  • Must have experience with mechanical ventilation, trach care, IV starts, foley insertion, wound care, and critical drips
  • Must be skilled in pediatric EVD management, G-tube care, and PICU/Med Surg pediatrics
  • Experience using Meditech EMR preferred
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
