Academic Calendar Year 2024/2025

Pay Range

$14.00 to $15.00 per hour depending on experience

Work Schedule

Flexible schedule between Monday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position may work up to 19 hours per week.

Dress Code

Casual with appropriate coverage; requires wearing closed-toe shoes and personal protective equipment (PPE) in lab setting; required safety equipment is provided by supervisor

Position Purpose/Role

Under the minimal supervision, supports Chemistry Department Laboratory and supervisor

Position Duties
  • Cleans, organizes, and maintains order in the chemistry lab and stockroom; and includes cleaning glassware
  • Assists with updating chemical inventory
  • Sets up and takes down chemistry labs as directed
  • Set up and take down forensic labs as directed
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current FVCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits per semester, and
  • Must be 18 years of age or older, and
  • Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures/protocols, and
  • Basic lab and technology skills, and
  • Ability to work independently with a minimal level of supervision as well as in a team environment, and
  • Ability to problem-solve and be self-motivated; and
  • Organizational skills and attention to details, and
  • Ability and willingness to provide quality customer service; ability to demonstrate a cooperative spirit in working with students, faculty, and supervisor
Preferred Qualifications
  • Chemistry and forensic or Lab related course history

Student Employment Guidelines
  • Students must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits for fall or spring semester to qualify for student employment.
  • Students may not work beyond 19 hours per week during the semester.
  • Student workers shall be actively engaged; no use of cell phones (except in case of emergency) or social media.
  • Student workers shall demonstrate a commitment to the job with adherence to work schedule, effective communication/interpersonal skills, and quality customer service skills to be a representative of FVCC.
