Mission Statement:

Office:
Montana Department of Revenue – Property Assessment Division.
- Conduct residential property reviews and discoveries to identify appraisal needs.
- Review tax records, land use, improvements, and valuation documents.
- Research and analyze individual residential property characteristics and determine final property value.
- Examine site and improvement data, zoning, planning, covenants, and deed restrictions.
- Compile and analyze construction cost data to determine effects on property values.
- Conduct field appraisals and site inspections of subject properties.
- Perform comparable sales to identify valuation factors.
- Document professional assumptions and limiting conditions.
- Determine the primary use for appraised properties and appropriate appraisal method.
- Verify information in title, ownership data, and market models.
- Minimum 2 years of post‑secondary education in business, accounting, economics, public administration, construction technology, or related field.
- Minimum 1 year of job‐related experience, preferably in property appraisal, assessment, or auditing.
- Montana certification in residential property appraisal (IAAO 101) required within the first year of employment.
- Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice training (USPAP) required.
- Strong research, analysis, attention to detail, and communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
