About Highland Valley Copper
Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation. Reporting to the Senior Accountant, the Financial Accountant (Temporary, 18‑month term) provides financial accounting support and contributes to the effective day‑to‑day operation of the Accounts Payable workstream within the Teck HVC Finance Department.
The successful candidate will be a fully engaged member of the Teck HVC Finance team.
Key Responsibilities- Foster and maintain a Safe and Healthy working environment in alignment with Teck Corporate and Highland Valley Copper Health and Safety and Environmental Management programs.
- Support the Accounts Payable team with vendor reconciliations, ensuring professional and effective communication during vendor interactions.
- Coordinate Accounts Payable requests from internal and external audit and tax groups.
- Review and approve accounts payable invoice and receipt batches for accuracy and compliance.
- Research and communicate requirements related to PST, GST, Builders Lien and other applicable regulations.
- Provide support to the Project Accountant and Accounts Payable team for the Mine Life Extension Project.
- Prepare and review monthly reconciliations for Balance Sheet accounts.
- Coordinate and prepare ESTMA reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Assist Cost Accountants and Consultants to support the preparation and filing of SR&ED Claims.
- Ensure accounts payable SOX documentation is maintained and provide to Auditors when required.
- Maintain accounts payable SOX narratives and library for HVC and work collaboratively with Internal Audit and corporate compliance group on this maintenance.
- Work effectively with departments outside of HVC Finance to support cross‑functional alignment.
- 2+ years full accounting cycle experience including accounts payable.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Strong analytical skills with an expert level of Excel spreadsheet skills.
- Full understanding of SOX controls and documentation requirements.
- High performing individual with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Highly proficient in MS Office, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- MS Power
BI and data analytic skills would be an asset. - Demonstrated commitment to ethical management behaviors and business and reporting practices.
- Strong interpersonal, writing, verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Proactive, self‑motivated, and strong attention to detail is required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.

Pay Range: CAD $95,000 - $118,000 per year
Working Conditions- Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50‑minute drive from Kamloops, which has all the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
- Access: This is a drive‑in/drive‑out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
