About the OpportunityIPH is seeking an Estimator, experienced with HVAC / Sheet Metal, to join their pre-construction team in the Kamloops office. Reporting to the Preconstruction Manager, the Estimator helps prepare conceptual and detailed estimates for bid-spec, design-assist, and design-build HVAC projects. This role interprets drawings, narratives, and performance criteria to define complete HVAC scopes, perform equipment and ductwork quantity takeoffs in collaboration with the pre-construction team.
As a member of the team, you will contribute to the evolution of our systems, processes, and digital tools, helping IPH continue to innovate and grow as an industry leader.
- Prepare detailed and conceptual HVAC estimates for bid-spec, design-assist, and design-build projects.
- Interpret drawings, narratives, and performance criteria to define complete HVAC system scopes.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for HVAC equipment and ductwork utilizing software such as Quotesoft.
- Develop project assumption logs, exclusions, and risk assessments.
- Prepare proposal letters and bid submission requirements.
- Analyze historical project data to support continuous improvement, including maintaining labour databases and enhancing estimating accuracy.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing for completeness.
- Support value engineering, cost optimization, and project handoff.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date records, including labour and material databases, drawings, specifications, revisions, and finalized estimate documentation.
- Other related duties.
Estimator – with HVAC / Sheet Metal estimating experience; OR a motivated Journeyperson with a recognized Plumbing or HVAC Trade Certificate who wants to develop a career in estimating (equivalent experience may be considered).
- Strong HVAC system understanding, the ability to interpret project information with analytical, systematic and critical thinking skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks, maintain accuracy, and work effectively under pressure across multiple projects and deadlines.
- Technically proficient with office, project, and estimating software; open to learning, sharing knowledge, and continuously improving digital practices. Procore experience is an asset.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, complemented by strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills to effectively manage complex priorities and drive sound decision-making at the managerial level.
- Demonstrated ability to build respectful, productive relationships through clear communication, accountability, and effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Knowledge of safety regulations with accountability for maintaining compliance and promoting a safe work environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement by learning new skills, critical thinking, adopting efficient work practices, and using technology effectively.
