Come join our group of Gastroenterologists who provide service to RIH, as well as maintain a community based practice, and have 2 days of endoscopy time per week. A referral based practice in general gastroenterology and hepatology, as well as participation in the provincial Colorectal Cancer Screening Program, ensures a varied practice. The gastroenterologists are supported by one colorectal surgeon dedicated to advanced IBD surgery.
The group also has set up a centralized referral system and are on one EMR database (Accuro) that the successful new recruit will be invited to join. Additional GI subspecialty training is welcomed, but not required. Members of the Division of Gastroenterology provide service to the hospital on a consultative, as well as GI on-call service.
There are two dedicated endoscopy trained nurses on call with the gastroenterologists to facilitate flexibility and ease on call cases. There is a Hepatology/Viral Hepatitis clinic with specialized nurses and Fibroscan capability. Hepatology clinic participation ½ day per month or more if desired. We have EUS, ERCP, endoluminal stenting, pH studies, esophageal motility and cancer therapy (apart from radiation).
Further ambitious growth was recently announced for a new cancer centre which will include radiation-therapy services, set to enrich our cancer care services by 2028. RIH has interventional radiologists and has gastroenterology fellows rotating through our hospital. Great working relationships and well supported with a great group of general surgeons, GPs/Hospitalists, and highly trained RNs. In this position you also have the opportunity to teach as RIH is a UBC site for the Faculty of Medicine including medical students and residents.
The Phil and Jennie Gaglardi Tower opened in the summer of 2022, has propelled RIH into a new healthcare era, featuring 11 new specialized Operating Rooms, and are beginning construction/planning for a hybrid OR suite and an additional OR suite. RIH also recently opened a new post-anesthetic recovery room and a trauma ward.
A new Pediatric Unit opened at RIH in July 2024 which includes 9 individual rooms, including an isolation room, procedure and Outpatient Clinic rooms and amenities which are designed to enhance family centered care.
The Teck Department renovation and expansion is underway in a new era for RIH, and will take place in phases. Phase 1 is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2024. Phase 2 renovations are scheduled to be complete in 2025. When finished, the department will offer expanded care and enhanced patient outcomes in one of the busiest emergency/trauma centres in British Columbia’s interior region.
