Position: Sessional - Faculty (EDFN 4200)
DUTIES

RESPONSIBILITIES

Thompson Rivers University is seeking one or two sessional faculty members who will teach one or two sections of EDFN
4200 in our Bachelor of Education program, in Fall of 2025. The anticipated start date is September 22, 2025. Strong candidates will have extensive Indigenous knowledge in relation to culture and learning, and have teaching experience in K-12 and post-secondary settings.

Section 1: 12:30 – 3:20, Thursdays

Section 2: 8:30 – 11:20, Thursdays

Section 3: 8:30 – 11:20, Thursdays

Section 4: 8:30 – 11:20, Wednesdays

Calendar Description

This course relates to understanding the value of Indigenous pedagogies and teacher candidates' roles as educators in addressing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action. Teacher candidates learn about trauma-informed classroom practices, use a variety of methods to assess learning with Indigenous students, and review cultural bias in assessments. Teacher candidates develop their understanding of protocols for involving local Indigenous people and appropriate Indigenous resources.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • A Bachelor of Education is required.
  • Master of Education is required;
    PhD or EdD is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of one (1) degree in education is required.
  • Expertise in K-12 education in British Columbia is required.
  • Three (3) years of outstanding full time or equivalent hours teaching in K-12 settings is required.
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) required.
  • Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) required.
  • Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) required.
