Position: Accommodations Assistant - Auxiliary /On Call
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides invigilation and support to students with disabilities during tests and exams.
  • Provides support to students with use of assistive technology during tests/exams (&Write, Dragon Naturally Speaking).
  • Liaises with faculty during the writing of tests/exams when students have questions.
  • Liaises with Faculty regarding the delivery and pick up of tests/exams to/from Accessibility Services.
  • Maintains and updates confidential student data and other records according to established departmental procedures.
  • Provides support to the Exams Supervisor and Exams Support Specialist with tasks such as filing and inputting data into the Accessibility Services data base and scheduling system.
  • Consults with Exams Supervisor as needed.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION:

    • Grade 12, plus one year post-secondary program or specialized courses in a related field (, Social or Community Services)

    EXPERIENCE:

    • One year related experience working with persons with disabilities in an educational environment or equivalent

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB

    • Knowledge of disabilities, confidentiality and privacy guidelines
    • Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with a range of people including staff, faculty, students with disabilities and individuals under stress
    • Proven ability to deal courteously and effectively with a range of people including students with various disabilities, faculty and staff
    • Ability to respond effectively to challenging and stressful situations involving students and/or faculty
    • Intermediate knowledge of word processing programs and databases
    • Understanding of adaptive technology in a testing environment
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
    • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team as well as independently

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Sitting at a desk and computer for long periods of time
    • General office conditions
    • Regular contact with students with a variety of disabilities
    • Dealing with challenging or difficult situations and/or personalities

    The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.
