DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • In collaboration with FoA leadership, engages in planning, developing, coordinating, implementing and monitoring EDII programming to ensure effective student development.
  • Identifies opportunities to align with TRU’s Strategic Plan, departmental goals, and other TRU initiatives.
  • Serves as a resource to students on issues and concerns related to diversity and equity through consultation and collaboration.
  • Provides clear communication to students, faculty, staff, and others about initiatives and programs.
  • Supports the resolution of challenging issues through consultation and collaboration with FoA leadership.
  • Develops and manages a database to collect information regarding resources and to coordinate and develop individual cases and referrals.
  • Manages confidential information and abides by TRU privacy rules.
  • Consults with faculty, staff, and administration in communicating referrals and actions to provide EDII support for students.
  • Coaches, advises, and supports students on appropriate study strategies and available resources and policies.
  • Develops information and resources for student populations from equity priority and deserving groups.
  • Collaborates to develop policy and processes with respect to student success and development.
  • Designs, organizes, and facilitates presentations and workshops related to students’ adjustment to the institution within the context of EDI principles.
  • Develops community and university partnerships through collaboration of various events and activities to support student engagement and success.
  • Participates in relevant committee and working groups to initiate and build student engagement and success.
  • Maintains currency in student development, mentorship, and fostering inclusive environments.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Arts, or related field plus post graduate studies leading to a certification or designation

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Three years’ experience working with students in a post-secondary institution or related environment, including:
      • Experience working with relational database software
      • Experience working as part of team, specifically in a case management support team
      • Experience with one-to-one tutoring/coaching
      • Experience working on issues of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Indigenization in a healthcare, community or educational setting

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB

    • Demonstrated knowledge of the impact of colonialism, racism, and discrimination on individuals and populations
    • Knowledge of University policies, procedures relating to admission, registration, and applications for financial aid
    • Knowledge of University policies, procedures relating to accommodation, discrimination, and harassment. Understanding of academic supports and transition initiatives.
    • Ability to establish priorities, organize, schedule, and report in a timely manner
    • Ability to collaborate, problem solve and develop relationships with various stakeholders
    • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks and tasks of others
    • Demonstrated ability to work with sensitive, confidential, and personal information
    • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policies
    • Proven ability to use judgement to assess and coach students effectively and discreetly
    • Ability to work within and assist others in navigating through complex systems
    • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
    • Ability to plan, develop and execute events and various activities
    • Ability to analyze and prepare budgets and report on financial activities
    • Advanced computer knowledge including word processing, presentation, and database applications
    • Ability to review, evaluate and report (verbally and in writing) on activities
    • Demonstrated ability and commitment to serving diverse students and their learning needs

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Some off campus travel may be required
    • General office conditions
    • Sitting at a desk or computer for extended periods of time
    • Hours of work may include evenings, early mornings, and some weekends to meet schedules of student population and departmental needs

    The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.
