The Staff Development Coordinator is responsible for supervising and coordinating all activities centered around training and providing general support to all certified and classified staff. The Staff Development Coordinator serves as a resource person for principals, central office staff, and the school division in general for programs and initiatives relative to staff development.
Essential Job Functions- Demonstrates the ability to articulate oral presentations and written communications and effectively interact with parents; pupils, other teachers, administrators, classified employees, and the community.
- Consults with administrators, teachers, and other division employees to determine current and anticipated professional development needs.
- Assists Principals with supporting new teacher programs at their schools
- Establishes learning objectives and goals for staff development sessions and develops training outlines and timelines.
- Facilitates the acquisition of grants and other revenues relative to staff development.
- Facilitates and conducts training and staff development.
- Assists the Chief Academic Officer in preparing and administering program budgets for staff
- Determines the most appropriate instructional method, utilizing knowledge of specified training needs and applicability and effectiveness of such methods as individual coaching, large and small group instruction, lectures, interactive training, and transfer techniques.
- Selects or develops appropriate training materials such as handouts, training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, and reference works.
- Markets, and encourages participation in, upcoming staff development initiatives and activities.
- Schedules training sessions, develops registration procedures, ensures that the facility is setup, ensures that employees are notified, and coordinates other practical elements involved with planning professional development activities.
- Designs and presents staff development sessions to different employee groups covering specific areas such as leadership development, instructional best practices, and school improvement initiatives.
- Assesses the success of each training session, studies follow-up evaluations, prepares related reports, and recommends improvements.
- Serves as a resource to the Curriculum and Instruction department and schools and advises/supports Instructional Supervisors and Principals with developing in-service programs.
- Serves as a resource to teachers, administrators, and other staff to identify and access professional literature, training materials, and training opportunities.
- Informs and advises employees about the division’s tuition reimbursement program and other professional development benefits.
- Oversees the maintenance of a database containing records of professional development initiatives.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to take independent initiative, while committing to collaboration
- Strong organizational skills
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to leverage (and when needed learn) technology and software applications to create reports, maintain records, and provide data
- Ability to create and maintain strong community collaborations
- Some experience in developing and/or leading interactive workshops and trainings
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective professional learning
Education:
Masters degree degree in education, Administration and Supervision, or closely related field
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience
Certification and License:
Administration and Supervision PreK-12 endorsement
