Position Hours and Pay

This position is for 6.5 hours per day at 178 days per year. 7 hours per day for 4 days for the first year and 2 days each year following until certification is completed. Position pay: PSE Salary Schedule Level 5 - $ 24.76 (25-26 PSE SALARY SCHEDULE).

Minimum Employment Requirements

Must be 18 years of age; hold high school diploma or its equivalent; and one of the following:

  • Successfully passed the ETS Para Pro test or Pearson Paraprofessional assessment.
  • AA degree or higher.
  • Earned seventy-two (72) quarter credits or forty-eight (48) semester credits at an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Completion of registered apprenticeship program offered by the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries.
  • Successful completion of The Master Teacher Inc. Para educator Online Training Program.

Description

This position's responsibilities are to assist certificated staff with instructional and non-instructional activities for students considered academically "at risk," working individually or in small groups, under a categorical remediation program Title I, including maintaining program records and preparing classroom materials under the supervision of a Title I Specialist.

Job Summary

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Instructs students individually or in small groups in a variety of subject areas, settings and learning activities. Implements methods to best serve individual students academically and behaviorally under the direction of certificated staff; promotes student understanding of materials. Promotes a positive attitude toward learning. Reinforces concepts and skills.
  • Assists with program compliance with statutes and regulations by maintaining accurate data and program records on the computer; maintains records and files in the required format. May collect, input and process data and documentation for the LAP or Title 1 program of an entire school.
  • Works as a member of the program instructional team to provide programs and services to eligible students.
  • Depending upon assignment, may pull students out of regular classroom for remediation as directed by the program coordinator. Locates, prepares and/or modifies materials for student use under the direction of certificated staff. Provides guidance and motivation to students; facilitates mastery of skills concepts; promotes completion of work.
  • Communicates with certificated staff concerning individual student needs and progress; assists with developing schedules for tutoring; adapts and presents lessons; checks and scores student assignments.
  • Assists with administration of objective screening of students for program qualification and eligibility; sets up testing schedules, orders tests, scores tests and records results. Communicates information to teachers so they may notify parents.
  • Documents progress of assigned student; maintains program coordination records manually and on computer, and assists in preparing student progress reports. Assists with program achievement tests.
  • Maintains a variety of program files and records according to established procedures and timelines, including student lists and program inventory; may provide information for program audits; prepares reports as directed.
  • Constructs learning tools such as flash cards, number games, and other learning materials; may research and locate learning materials; compiles materials for student assignments; may order materials and supplies as needed.
  • Supervises student behavior and assists teacher with classroom management; facilitates mastery of social adjustment skills; ensures that students stay on task; disciplines students as authorized.
  • Types, duplicates, collates and distributes program materials. May create posters and charts and design bulletin boards. Operates a variety of office equipment and computers.
  • Maintains physical appearance of the classroom and assigned areas; straightens chairs and tables; puts materials away after use.
