REFERENCEISETS Eligibility Requirements- Eligibility confirmed for Aboriginal status, non-status, and Inuit students.
- Must reside within the ISETS catchment area.
- Minimum 15 years of age at time of hiring.
- High school student who was a registered full‑time student during the prior academic year and is returning full‑time in the following year.
- Valid Social Insurance Number.
The Language and Culture Department Manager will oversee program management and financial administration and negotiate on behalf of the Tkek Yeel Stem Camp. The Camp Counsellor will oversee camp programs and services, provide leadership, and guide staff in developing and implementing summer camp’s goals and objectives, working with external partners as well.
Duties And Responsibilities- Plan, develop, and implement camp programs and services under the direction of the Camp Coordinator.
- Recruit staff for intergenerational teaching of language, history, and culture.
- Operate the summer camp in accordance with TteS Administration Procedures, Finance Administration Law, HR Employee Policy and Procedures Manual, and child‑care legislation.
- Support the Camp Coordinator in planning and implementation of programs.
- Review policies and recommend updates.
- Monitor youth camp policies to ensure legal compliance.
- Ensure safety and well‑being of campers.
- Coordinate engaging activities and supervise campers.
- Develop new programs and maintain staff training.
- Work with Camp Coordinator to ensure timely receipt or invoice submission.
- Coordinate hiring of Traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders; submit cheque requisitions on time.
- Ensure camp staff adhere to the TteS Employment Policy and Procedures Manual.
- Participate in staff training such as first aid, bear aware, canoeing, water safety.
- Promote and facilitate intergenerational teaching at the camp.
- Leverage list of Elders/Traditional Knowledge Keepers and artists to engage campers.
- Collaborate with Community Services Department to host gatherings.
- Develop and distribute posters advertising the camp and weekly calendar.
- Invite SFU language students and instructors to teach at the camp.
- Maintain relationships with TteS members, LC and CSD staff, and accounting staff.
Knowledgeable of Secwépemc language, history and culture.
Professional Certification, Education And Experience- Current returning high‑school student (Grade 11 or below).
- First aid and transportation certificates required.
- Lifeguard certificate an asset.
- Basic computer skills an asset.
- Preference for experience working with children and youth, especially in an indigenous organization.
- Provide Criminal Record Check – Vulnerable Sector and keep it updated during employment.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication.
- Children/youth supervisory skills.
- Organizational skills.
- Crisis management skills.
- Problem‑solving and critical thinking.
- Event planning skills.
Normal day shifts – 7 hours. Non‑normal shifts may be required.
Pay Grade$20.00 per hour.
