Position: Para educator - Title I/LAP (SPANISH SPEAKING)

POSITION HOURS AND PAY
6.5 hours per day, 178 days per year. First year: 7 hours per day for 4 days and 2 days each subsequent year until certification is completed.
Salary: PSE Salary Schedule Level 5 – $24.76 per hour.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Hold high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Additional qualification options:
- Successfully passed the ETS Para Pro test or Pearson Paraprofessional assessment
- AA degree or higher
- Earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an accredited institution
- Completion of registered apprenticeship program offered by the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries
- Successful completion of The Master Teacher Inc. Para educator Online Training Program
- Must successfully complete the Fundamental Course of Studies (FCS) and the General Para educator Certificate of the state mandated Para educator Certificate Program.
- Must be fluent in Spanish.
- Requires fingerprinting and background check to ensure no convictions related to child abuse or neglect.
- Must complete district infection control training.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruct students individually or in small groups in a variety of subject areas, settings and learning activities. Implements methods to best serve individual students academically and behaviorally under the direction of certificated staff.Assist with program compliance by maintaining accurate data and program records on the computer.Work as a member of the program instructional team to provide programs and services to eligible students.Pull students out of regular classroom for remediation as directed by the program coordinator and prepare or modify materials for student use under the direction of certificated staff.Communicate with certificated staff regarding student needs and progress; assist with developing tutoring schedules, adapting lessons, and scoring assignments.Assist with objective screening of students for program qualification, setting up testing schedules, ordering and scoring tests, and recording results.Document student progress, maintain program coordination records manually and on computer, and assist in preparing student progress reports.Maintain program files and records, assist with program audits, and prepare reports as directed.Construct learning tools such as flash cards, number games, and other materials; research, locate, and order supplies as needed.Supervise student behavior, assist teacher with classroom management, ensure students stay on task, and discipline students as authorized.Type, duplicate, collate, and distribute program materials; create posters, charts, and bulletin boards.Maintain the physical appearance of the classroom and assigned areas, straighten chairs and tables, and store materials after use.Alert qualified district staff to student problems.Provide general clerical support and support teachers by duplicating materials when program review standards are met.Attend staff meetings, program meetings, and serve on district committees as requested.Model appropriate, cooperative behavior, including protecting confidential information and following district ethical guidelines.Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the school principal. Receives guidance from a basic skills specialist and coordinates with certificated staff.
MENTAL DEMANDS
May experience frequent interruptions, work with students exhibiting a range of behaviors and abilities, and occasionally manage challenging or distressed students.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Potential exposure to infectious diseases, noise, paper cutter use, and prolonged use of visual display terminals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, training, and experience necessary to perform instructional and remedial education. High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree, two years of higher education, or completion of the Washington State para educator assessment also required.
