The Lower Nicola Indian Band (LNIB) Education Department is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and student-focused Education Assistant to support LNIB secondary students attending SD58 Public Schools.

This position extends beyond the traditional Education Assistant role found within British Columbia public school districts. In addition to supporting students during the school year, the successful applicant will organize homework support sessions, mentor youth, monitor student success, collaborate with schools and families, and assist with educational programming during Spring Break and the summer months.

• Support secondary students in classroom, school, and community learning environments.
• Promote independence, organization, executive functioning, attendance, and engagement.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with youth.
• Provide one-to-one and small-group academic support.
• Assist students with assignments, study skills, time management, and graduation planning.
• Work collaboratively with Indigenous Student Advocates, teachers, counsellors, Education Assistants, administrators, and School-Based Teams.
• Maintain communication with the LNIB Education Department regarding student progress and emerging concerns.
• Support respectful advocacy for students while maintaining positive relationships with schools.
• Assist with planning and delivering programming during Spring Break and summer months.
• Support literacy, numeracy, leadership, career exploration, cultural learning, and wellness activities.
• Maintain accurate documentation and confidentiality.
• Participate in meetings with families, schools, and LNIB staff.
• Work independently while managing multiple priorities.

• Education Assistant Certification from a recognized post‑secondary institution.
• A minimum of five (5) years of successful employment as an Education Assistant within a British Columbia public school district and/or BC Independent Schools.
• Demonstrated experience supporting secondary school students.
• Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
• Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License and reliable transportation.
• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check including the Vulnerable Sector.
• Understanding of IEPs, executive functioning supports, and positive behaviour interventions.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills.
• Commitment to culturally responsive practice and Indigenous student success.
